NYC VS RATS

Editorial Illustration typically is understood to be non photographic visual material, used by publications to draw attention to a story, and hint at its content. This assignment was no different.
The task was to create an editorial illustration that worked with an NPR article of choice.
My article centered around the constant battle of the New York City mayor's office to gain public approval. His technique? Declare war on the rats that infest the city, going as far as to appoint a specialized "Czar" to lead this long fight.
Color palette meant to represent the intensity and darkness of the city's fight against rats, reminiscent of boxing imagery. Partially inspired by Episode 10 on Season 3 of the show Criminal Minds, in which a graphic artist uses dark colors, red accents, and harsh contrast.
